The Scottish case

A relevant ecosystem is a reason to investigate, not a reason to assume.

Scotland already has a substantive life sciences base. Economic analysis published by the Scottish Government in March 2026 reports that the national sector contributes £10.1 billion to Scotland’s economy, with exports worth £4.9 billion.

The national life sciences strategy seeks to strengthen the environment for developing, testing, manufacturing and commercialising innovation. That ambition creates relevant context for diligence. It is not a forecast of demand, impact or support for VARUNÉ Labs.

Renfrewshire Council describes AMIDS as an advanced manufacturing district beside Glasgow Airport and identifies the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre as existing anchors.

That context is one reason the corridor is being examined. It does not establish a VARUNÉ Labs site, relationship, access, endorsement or commercial fit.

A protected front door could let young people compare formulations, explore molecules, understand clean environments and see where robots assist trained scientists. The learning outcome, not attendance alone, would need to be evaluated.

Is the Glasgow programme active?

Yes. It is in active predevelopment and location diligence. Evidence gathering and exploratory discussions are under way, but land has not been secured and construction has not been authorised.

Has a Glasgow site been selected?

No. The AMIDS and Glasgow Airport corridor remains the preferred area for detailed assessment. No parcel or land interest is represented as selected, controlled or agreed.

What would the first phase prioritise?

The current brief prioritises formulation and analytical science, partner innovation and the infrastructure needed to support controlled development work. Scope and area remain subject to test fit, demand and finance.

Will the Glasgow campus manufacture medicines?

Manufacturing would remain partner-led initially. Any future internal activity would require a defined operator, suitable premises and utilities, quality systems, qualification and validation, inspections and all applicable licences.

If the Scottish case meets the gates

A suitable site, utilities, planning route, operating responsibility, evidenced demand, commercial structure and finance would need to converge before the proposal could advance to another controlled stage. Advancement would still require formal agreements, permissions and documented governance approval.

Fixed infrastructure would pause rather than being forced into the wrong site or scale. The proposal could reduce in scope, change sequence, rely on externally commissioned specialist work or stop. Another geography would be considered only through a fresh and separately governed diligence process.

Stevenage provides a public example of a life sciences campus that sought detailed permission for an initial phase and outline permission for the wider masterplan.
